Students rewrote their definition of a hero based on their reading of chapter 6. Afterwards, we went over the chapter 6 study guide, then students divided into groups of two or three to write journalistic articles or interviews of the boys at the hospital.

We reviewed our ideas for what the poem "Nothing Gold can Stay" could mean, then we related it to what the poem could be saying about the current situation in The Outsiders.  Then, we wrote a journal entry of 3/4 a page, located on this slide, and talked about it.  Then we began reading chapter 6 with the chapter 6 reading guide.

Homework - Chapter 6 and the reading guide are due tomorrow. There will also be a check on quotes tomorrow; students must copy down two quotes per chapter that can fit the idea of "There are more to social groups than what meets the eye."

Students began class by sitting with their debate groups and preparing their first arguement with textual support, then we began the debate. Then, we previewed the poem "Nothing Gold can Stay" in Wordle form by brainstorming how each word could be a symbol for something.  After this, we predicted what the poem would be about, read the poem, and analyzed each line of the poem.  We then brainstormed what the poem could actually be about.

Students were placed in groups based on who they thought was most responsible for the murder in chapter 4. They had to write a 2-3 sentence argument and find as many pieces of textual evidence they could to support the argument in preparation for tomorrow’s debate.  Then, students read chapter 5 and completed the corresponding study guide silently.

Today we reviewed yesterday's events in Romeo and Juliet and continued reading through the text up to the last two pages of Act 3, scene 3, when Friar Laurence talks about 'a pack of blessings.'

Today we reviewed the fight scene (Act 3, scene 1) from yesterday, debated the place of weapons in both their society and ours, and listened to the audio adaptation of Romeo and Juliet from the middle of scene one to the middle of scene two. 

First, we reviewed who died in scene one and Romeo's motives for killing Tybalt (acting before he thinks).  We then debated if the swords men carry in this play should be regulated as in America today. We then watched these two video while students wrote a statement of their stance on the issue:

We then completed the journal entry for scene one in class, comparing the videos to Romeo and Juliet's time.  This is homework for those who did not finish it in class.  We then shared our opinions on the issue.

The second half of class consited of listening and following along to the audio adaptation of Romeo and Juliet beginning at the point when the prince enters the scene in act 3, scene one.  We stopped at the end of the second page of scene 2, where Juliet is just learning that Romeo is not dead, Tybalt is.

Students viewed Act III, scene i.  Then, they began reading the act.  They received the Act III packet.  Students should be answering questions as we read.

Students read Chapter2 in Diamonds.  Then, they created two questions toward the chapter for other students to answer.  They have a vocab quiz over Chapters 1 and2 for Thursday.

Students read Chapter 1 and part of Chapter 2 from Diamonds in the Shadow.  They completed an exit ticket. "How does Jared react to hearing the news of hosting an African family and why?  How does Mopsey react?  How would you react if you were in Jared's position?  Explain."

Students were to find 5 articles that relate to their chosen research topics.  Three out of the five must come from our databases.  They need these articles by Friday.  Students need to bring their Diamonds in the Shadow books to class tomorrow.

Students completed Chapter 2 of the vocab book.  Then, they read their SSR book and/or completed theirResponse #2 for their SSR book, which is due next Friday.

We went over how to create a Works Cited page.  They turned in their library research packet.  Then, we continued to fill out their KWL handout and discussed what they have learned and the questions they still have.  Finally, the students chose a research topic.

Students were in the library completing a handout that required them to find one book and one article from a database about refugees.   Then handout is due Thursday.

Students viewed the film, Invisible Children, and completed a handout that is due on Wednesday.

Second period discussed the comments on Voicethread.  Then, they read their SSR books.  Fourth period had an assembly to attend.  Their firstSSR response is due Tuesday.

Students are to continue to comment on the Voicethread presentation.  They need to make at least 2 comments.  Their Bucket List journal is due today.  Their first reading response towards their SSR book is now due on Tuesday.

Students need to reponse at least two of the slides in the Voicethread presentation.  They can type a comment or use their cell phone.

Students finished viewing The Bucket List.  Students are to complete the journal.  The journal is due Thursday.

Students are watching the film, The Bucket List.  They are to complete the provided handout while viewing the film.  This will help them complete the future writing assignment.  Students are to continue to read their SSR books in order to be able to complete their first SSR responses for Friday.

Students completed the last two sections of Chapter 1 in their vocab books.  Then, they read their SSR book.  I checked their life list journal as well.

Students received their SSR assignment with due dates and chose a novel to read by the end of the quarter.

We completed section 3 of Chapter 1 in their vocab books.  Then, students were to choose one goal from their life lists and explain in a journal how they will accomplish this goal.  The journal is due Friday. 

We are going over section 2 of Chapter 1 in their vocab books.  Then, we are going over the handout towards yesterday's article.  Finally, students will create "life lists" and write a journal about how to accomplish one of their goals.

We completed the first DLA in their notebooks. We completed the first section of Chapter 1 in the vocab book.  Then, they read the article, "Ten Things to Do Before This Article is Finished."  They need to complete the handout related to the article for homework.

Students are completing a reading diagnostic test.  We may complete Chapter 1 in their vocab books if there is time.  Students need to bring a single-subject notebook to class on Monday.

Students will complete a writing diagnostic test in class.  Students need to bring their vocab book to class tomorrow.

We will go over the classroom rules and complete an interest inventory handout.  Students are to take home the rules for parents to read and sign, saying they understand the rules and procedures.  Students need to return the signed rules and completed interest inventories to me by tomorrow (Thursday).
